Previously, these roads were closed for vehicular traffic from November 20, 2023, due to seasonal conditions. The Lahaul-Spiti administration had issued orders last year to halt the movement of vehicles on these routes for the winter season. With the increase in cold in the mountains after fresh snowfall, snow has accumulated on the roads in Kunjum Pass, Baralacha, and Shinkula Pass and Rohtang pass, hence Leh-Manali highway became risky and it is closed for vehicle movements.
The road is narrow and slippery beyond Baralacha.
